Despite his undoubted pedigree and influence on many of today’s generation of jazz practitioners, trumpet maestro Alphonso ‘Dizzy’ Reece’s place in the pantheon of greats remains obscure. Through his project, Routes In Jazz, British pianist Trevor Watkis’ aims to illuminate the Caribbean musician’s unsung contributions, paying tribute to Reece’s artistry with a crack UK-US ensemble featuring Byron Wallen, Ralph Moore, Willie Jones III and Dezron Douglas. Kevin Le Gendre spoke to the participants keen to shine a light on a living legend’s legacy
